The 2024 Global Ocean Development Forum will be held from October 24th to 25th, 2024, in Qingdao, Shandong Province.

In the view of Alf Kare Adnanes, Regional Manager of Marine & Ports AMEA at ABB, Shandong Province and Qingdao City are not only key ports and maritime hubs in China but also provide tremendous opportunities for the global maritime companis to collaborate in the fields of port automation and ship intelligence. The automated container terminals at Qingdao Port have become a global benchmark in the port industry, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and improving working conditions and safety through intelligent operating systems and automation technology. Meanwhile, Rizhao Port in Shandong is also one of the most important ports in the world, with its advanced infrastructure and innovative applications placing Shandong at the forefront of the global port and maritime industry.

Looking forward, Mr. Adnanes stated that ABB is committed to promoting sustainable development in the maritime and port sectors through the advancement of decarbonization technologies and intelligent solutions. He firmly believes that electric and hybrid propulsion systems can enhance overall energy efficiency and reduce investment and operational costs for shipowners. At the same time, the company will actively develop and utilize clean energy solutions, such as batteries, electricity, and hydrogen fuel cells. These technologies will play a critical role, especially in short-distance shipping, such as ferries, harbor crafts, coastal, and inland waterway transportation. Mr. Adnanes added that ABB will further explore the use of artificial intelligence to collect, analyze, and optimize massive amounts of data from ships, environments, and satellites, helping operators make smarter and more efficient decisions, thus achieving a comprehensive digital transformation of the maritime and port industries.
